10th Northeast Festival 2022 Delhi
The eagerly anticipated 10th Northeast Festival will take place in conjunction with 2022’s holiday celebrations. The energetic event, which highlights the spirit of the Northeast, will get underway on December 23 at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi. Eight states will bring their entire cultural heritage to the carnival for display. You can sample the varied cuisines, arts and crafts, and traditions from the Northeast. The event has made a significant contribution to increasing tourism in the Northeastern states since its start in 2013.
Shri G. Kishan Reddy, Union Minister for Culture, Tourism, and Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), Govt of India, will officially begin the festival. The Union Cabinet Ministers for the Ministries of Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Ayush, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal and Shri Kiren Rijiju, as well as the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, Shri Piyush Goel, are anticipated to attend the ceremony. Among the guests will be the Chief Ministers of the Northeast.
Shri Shyamkanu Mahanta, the festival’s principal organizer, expressed the following in regard to the festival’s tenth anniversary: “We are incredibly thrilled and excited to be returning to Delhi, our favorite location, after two years of lockdown, social isolation, and other COVID-19 protocols. The Northeast Festival honors the natural splendor, cultural richness, and integrity of Northeast India. Its unique selling point is the way that social cohesiveness, cultural preservation, and economic welfare are all effortlessly incorporated. People have been educated to appreciate and respect the rich and varied traditions of the Northeast. As a result, there is less bigotry and xenophobia directed at Northeast Indians.”
The publication Know Your North East will also make its debut at the festival. It is intended to be given in schools and institutions to inform and motivate people to discover and recognise the rich legacy of the Northeast.
One of the best ways to learn about a culture’s newness is through its cuisine. In order to promote intercultural understanding and interaction, there will be 50 food vendors dishing up sizzling hot food from Northeast India as well as from other areas of Delhi-NCR. Starting with the sanpiau, a rice porridge topped with either veggies or meat, individuals who are interested in Northeastern cuisine should move on to the jadoh, a dish made with rice and meat from the Khasi tribe of Meghalaya. You can end the day with the tangy fish stew from Assam, masor tenga, before trying the Meitei tribe of Manipur’s iromba, a dish of dried and fermented fish with vegetables.
The audience will be immersed in Northeastern cultures thanks to a fascinating lineup of dance dramas, music performances, mask presentations, fashion shows, open-mic sessions, etc. Additionally, bands from all around India are taking part in the Northeast Rock Battle. Enjoy the multi-genre musical spectacle in addition to the delicious food. One of the playing bands is Innocent Eyes from Manipur, along with Traffic Jam and Bipul Chetri from Darjeeling, Sikkim, Psychedelic Effect from Nagaland, Taba Chake from Arunachal Pradesh, and Jessie Lyndoh from Meghalaya. Klanjan, Flying Cupid, and the poster boys Zubeen Garg and Achurja Barpatra are also from Assam. The band When Chai Met Toast also arrives from Kerala.
Keep your shopping bags at the ready to bring some fine Northeastern goods home. An MSME zone with more than 100 entrepreneurs will be located in the exhibition area, where they will display agri-horticultural products, handicrafts, processed food items, etc. You may get your hands on genuine Northeastern goods at the festival.
True to its tagline, Connecting People Making Memories, the Northeast Festival.
